Tips for Staying Cool This Summer

With the beautiful, hot summer months we see here in Wyoming, our air conditioners can quickly become our best friends after a long day in the sun. There are ways to stay cool without having to run our air conditioners more than we need to though. So give your air conditioner a nice break and follow these tried and true tips to stay cool this summer!

Tip #1: Close Your Blinds

This is a great idea at any point during the summer, but especially helpful during the 4th of July celebrations when you will likely be spending most of the day outside anyway. Closing up your blinds prevents sunlight from heating up your home and making your HVAC system work harder than it needs to. If you have been closing your blinds and still feel as though your air conditioning is working harder than it should, get a hold of one of our HVAC professionals at Champion Services. You may just need a quick and easy servicing to get it up and running the way it needs to.

Tip #2: Prepare Everything for Your Festivities Outside

Since most summer festivities happen outside anyway, try selecting dishes and drinks that can be prepared outside, such as burgers, brats, corn-on-the-cob, and chips and dip. As for drinks, try simple options such as soda, a pitcher of water, and canned beers and seltzers. Not only will this be much easier and take some of the stress off of you, but it will help to keep your home cool as you won’t have people going in and out of your house while preparing dishes that require the use of the oven or microwave.

Tip #3: Provide Shade

If you are the type of person who enjoys spending ample time outdoors anyway, we suggest investing in an umbrella or an overhang to your home in order to give your guests (and yourself) an area to cool off from the sun while still getting to enjoy the outdoor festivities.

Tip #4: Hydrate!

This can be an easy one to forget about, especially on days like the 4th of July when everyone is busy preparing food, playing yard games, and making the most out of their celebrations. Be sure to set out a big pitcher of water and cups for people to grab and enjoy throughout the day, and mix in plenty of water if you plan on drinking alcohol, as this will dehydrate you even more. It can also be a good idea to have a spray bottle or two filled with water placed by the water pitcher so people can spray themselves off if they feel as though they are getting too hot!
