Keep Your Registers Open
Don’t close more than 20 percent of the heating registers in your home. This keeps heat from building up and helps your furnace work efficiently. If you need to, count them to find out how many you can close. Make sure that all open registers are uncovered and free of accumulated debris caused by dust, pet hair, and lint.
Install A Carbon Monoxide Detector
Gas furnaces can cause carbon monoxide buildup when they aren’t working properly. This can be difficult to detect unless you have a functioning carbon monoxide detector for your Evanston home. You can get one at any hardware store. Once you’ve installed it, test it monthly to make sure it’s working properly.
Watch The Pilot Light
If your pilot light goes out regularly, it’s important to find out why. There may be a breeze or other stream of air that causes it to go out. However, it could indicate a problem with your gas line.
